One of the largest mountains in Haywood County, the now famous Cold Mountain lies in the Bethel Community near Canton. Popularized by the novel which was turned into a major motion picture, Cold Mountain was written by Charles Frazier, who was born in Haywood County and spent.

Pigeon River Scenic Walking Trail
This mile and a half walking trail is located along the beautiful Pigeon River in Canton. Along the length of the trail are benches to relax and enjoy the surrounding scenery and wildlife. Further along downstream you’ll find a boat access ramp for those wishing to canoe or fish. There’s something for everyone along the trail, whether you’re looking for some exercise or just an enjoyable stroll with your family and friends. Don’t forget to bring the kids along to feed the ducks and geese that frequent the river.
